Princess Belle (Cosplay)

Having brown hair and being a lover of books I've always related & compared myself to Belle from Beauty & the Beast. The other day I got thinking about this more than usual and I wondered what a cosplay Belle costume would look like. WELL I found some of the best, I looked for both the blue dress that she wears in town as well as the classic yellow ball gown that EVERYONE remembers.

I found some pretty fantastical replica's and I'll admit I'm pretty tempted to make the blue one.

Doesn't it just look so easy to make?
(If I ever do make this I will be sure to post about it)

Now the yellow one doesn't look as easy, I really don't think I would have enough patience to achieve such a thing.

There was one costume that I did not quite recall but I'll admit it's been a long time since I've watched this particular Disney movie but here it is:

If I were to make it I would probably be way more into the details than this (I'm a perfectionist) and that's probably why it always takes me so long to make any costume I decide to make. If I were to highly detail it, it would probably end up looking somewhat like this one:

Way to go Disney, you bring out the Princess in all of us even Cosplayers.

More of Antonia Sautter

I just cant get enough, I really cant. I've been non stop googling her since my last entry. Turns out she has a facebook page, I found her offical website (in italian) & SHE MAKES WEDDING DRESSES TOO!

Not even kidding you I may like her as much as I like Pnina Tornai
I found pictures of some beautiful bridal wear & also of her shop, so I created a slide show to share

Wedding dress & veil by Antonia Sautter

Daughter of a Venetian mother & German father, Antonia has always lived in Venice.
Antonia began sewing at a young age. Since she was a young girl she started drawing her own costumes, attaching pearls, sewing fabrics and was blessed to be helped by an encouraging mother.

"One day I just thought I wanted to create something for me, on my own, and I opened a small shop where I would display my creations. And there you go: from then on, things started to happen. I believe you make your fortune on your own, you have to create the right circumstances to help your dreams come true" says Antonia Sautter.

Blog Fanpage!

Once upon a time I used to announce via my status that I updated my blog, but honestly some people on my Facebook just dont care, so for those who do care I have now made a fan page on Facebook for my blog so if you wish to receive updates when I create new posts join here:

You will also find bonus content on the facebook fanpage. I cant always put as many photo's as I want into my posts so those that do not make the cut are featured in an album on the fanpage for you to enjoy :)

Who was more royal?

It has recently come to my attention that celebrities when promoting themselves seem to prefer being A) a Queen or B) a Princess.
But that's ok because if I could I would choose one of those too.
So here is Katy Perry, Nikki Manaj, & Beyonce all as royals. Check them out!

Katy Perry: Killer Queen

Katy Perry advertising her new fragrance "Killer Queen" blew me away! I loved how she plays a seemingly Marie Antoinette character, and its amazing how she just grabs a knife from the one guy & just slices off the corset ties of her dress, because I'm sure Marie Antoinette would have tried that too if she thought of it (Marie Antoinette had a dislike of stays & corsets, which was good because turns out they were bad for your health)

Queen Bey of Course!

wowzers! I would just like to say I loved this whole thing. It was like a mash up of Queen Elizabeth I & Marie Antoinette *So Inpiring* I just wish that I could have seen the rest of the costumes of her ladies in waiting. I would so be tempted to make a replica of those costumes.

Nikki Manaj: Minajesty

Well the name of the fragrance is a nice play on words and I have to say she does make an interesting Princess but now my question is who played royalty better? Katy Perry, Beyonce, or Nikki Manaj? Be sure to answer in the poll in the sidebar of my blog!

Carnival of Venice - Atelier Antonia Sautter

                                                               Antonia Sautter (2001)

Thanks to my friend Natalia Tjiang I have discovered what may be my new favorite costume designer.
In 2013 she went on a trip to Italy & they made a stop in Venice. Just recently I was going through the many photo's of her trip on Facebook and I found one that was a picture of pretty dresses in a shop window and I just had to Google it.

                                                        Photo's by Natalia Tjiang

Up until then I did not know that the Carnival of Venice even existed and in the caption on her photo it mentioned "carnival costumes" So I started with the search word "Carnival costumes Venice" and found a whole bunch of wonderfulness.
Even though what I found I liked I was determined to find the exact designer of the costumes in the picture. I particularly liked the pink costume (Pink is my favorite color) so I searched for "Venice carnival costume designers" and found Antonia Sautter (as well as Stefano Nicolao) and turns out it was Antoina's shop in this picture:

Photo of the pink costume at Il Ballo del Doge

More than anything I like making historical costumes. So when I find someone that makes similar costumes I get very happy. Though I am pretty much fangirling over this right now, I make otherwise historically accurate costumes because..well I'm a perfectionist, but Antonia Sautter makes them for the glamour of the Carnival of Venice.

Located in 3 boutiques in the Piazza San Marco (St. Marks square, Venice, Italy) she sells her fashion creations, she is well known for being the creator and organizer of  Il Ballo Del Doge the costume ball held each year during the Carnival of Venice.
Her shop contains over 2000 of her creations, and also books appointments and makes custom designs.
The pictures shown in the slideshow below are but of few of her gorgeous creations.

The dress that I originally loved - Designed by Pnina Tornai

This is from one of Pnina's first collections, this dress is from the 2007 collection (Pnina started designing in 2005) There wasn't much to find about this dress online other than "A sleeveless floor length ballgown, with a front slit in the satin over layer revealing the tulle under layer"

I wish I knew the original price, but in the fashion world 2007 is so long ago I'm lucky I even could still find the photo's for it. Isn't it pretty?

David & Elizabeth Emanuel - Dresses for Princess Diana

The Pink Blouse
The Beginning of it all

It was the pink blouse in this portrait that Diana wore that started it all.

When going through the racks of clothing selected for the photo shoot, she found this pink blouse & fell in love with it. When Diana asked who made it she was directed to the Emanuel's...and well that's how it all began.

The Black Dress

It may have started with the blouse but it didn't end there, the first memorable garment by the press was "The Black Dress"

It was made for Diana's first public appearance, and was the Emanuel's first official design for Diana. It was to be a Black Tie Event at Goldsmith Hall (March 1981) and even Grace Kelly Princess of Monaco was in attendance.

(Diana later met Grace Kelly at the same event, and exchanged advice as Grace too had gone from "Commoner" to "Royalty")
There was rather mixed opinions about this dress. Diana had even fretted about the dress as it was very revealing and her cleavage was seen when getting out of the limo or that it was unbecoming as it was two sizes too small.
Upon meeting Princess Grace, Diana commented about how the media had gotten "Rather Excited" about it, Grace had jokingly said "Don't worry Dear, you'll see - it will only get worse"

The dress later did cause tongues to wag and say "It looks like a hip bath" "Daring" "Black is for mourning"
but along with the bad there is always the good.

I thought this dress was rather beautiful and it made her look like the definition of a princess, this has always been one of my favorite dresses.

The Royal Wedding Dress

After that event it was the day that changed the Emanuel's lives, they became noticed by the media and the paparazzi seemed to flock to their little four story studio, there were Paparazzi on roof's trying to get a winning shot, and journalists camped outside all waiting for Diana. The Emanuel's of course did some TV interviews and were so popular all at once that they had to let film crews in one at a time as there was very little space for much more.

So of course the next dress to be designed for Diana was her wedding dress. The Emanuel's consulted with Maureen Baker (She had made Princess Anne's wedding dress) as to what was appropriate & what was not, royal requirements, etc.
They also in the beginning had a safe installed in which to keep the fabric, pattern, sketches, etc. as they later realized making a royal wedding dress is a high security thing, and even the team that was hired all had ID cards that were required to be shown to the security guards before being allowed access to anything involving the royal wedding dress.

In the end it was a very beautiful wedding dress and probably one of the most memorable royal weddings to ever happen.

After the wedding, the next dress was to be this one:

The Swiss Dotted Dress

Embroidered with pearlized sequins and a pink sash, this dress was worn to a state banquet in 1982 it was held at Claridges in London in honor of King Khalid of Saudi Arabia during his visit to the UK.

The Turquoise Dress

Turquoise one shoulder drop waist gown, with a bow to accentuate the shoulder.

Princess Diana wore this on October 31st 1985 in Melbourne Australia at a ball in the Southern Cross Hotel. The most memorable piece to this outfit that everyone remembers  is the fact that Diana wore an emerald & diamond choker (A wedding gift from The Queen) as a headband. A very creative head piece if I might add.

The Diaghilev Dress

Diana bought this dress (at a Red Benefit fashion show) in the summer of 1986 and was worn multiple times by on many occasions such as:

(July 4th 1986) to a state banquet for Richard Von Weizsaker President of the Federal Republic of Germany

(July 22nd 1986) to The Royal Opera House for a performance of "Ivan The Terrible" by the Balshoi Ballet

(June 29 1987) to the premiere of the James Bond film "The Living Daylights" at the Odeon, Leicester Square

A white silk organza ballgown decorated with gilt beads and gold paillettes and simulated pearls

It was inspired by Leon Bakst's designs for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and it had a matching head band, optional sleeve panels and petticoat. Diana wore it both with & without the petticoat & some times exchanging the head band for a tiara on more special occasions.

The Monochrome Dress

A black & white evening gown with a striped side bow

Worn during the royal tour of The Gulf States in Saudi Arabia in November 1986. This is one of the final dresses (That I know of) worn by Diana and made by Emanuel.

David & Elizabeth Emanuel

Though Diana in the end liked many designers one of the first was David & Elizabeth Emanuel. They as you can see above, made many of Princess Diana's garments. Sadly after the death of Princess Diana the Emanuel's marriage came to an end and they're also well known for their nasty divorce in 1990. In my opinion some of the best garments they ever made were created during the time of Diana.

Iconic Wedding Dresses - Princess Diana

I had to start with this one, Princess Diana's wedding dress was the first wedding dress I knew of besides my mothers. For the longest time I idolized this dress.
When I was little I planned to have a dress just like this one. Now I don't exactly want a dress like this one but definitely the same wow effect, because that's what Princess Diana was aiming for a wow effect. The train on her dress beat a world record it was a whopping 25 feet long. That's wow.

It is probably one of the most famous wedding dresses in the world, and definitely the best kept secret.

It was David & Elizabeth Emanuel who designed & created it. The subject of the royal gown was so popular in the media they even created a second design in case the original was found out.

To keep everyone off the scent they burned any scraps that were left from the making of the dress due to the fact that the media was literally going through their garbage just to find a fabric sample or even a piece of thread to do with Diana's dress.

Though the dress production was later moved from the Emanuel's studio and moved to Buckingham palace, where not only Diana could more easily get fittings but because the 25 foot train became too big for the shop. A wing of the palace was literally cordoned off so not even palace staff could access it because a press leak could absolutely not be risked at that point.

The dress was accessorized with the Spencer family tiara & low heeled shoes.

Diana's dress was made of woven silk taffeta, with a large ballgown dress embroidered with pearls (10,000 pearls to be exact) & sequins, with it's bodice frilled with lace. The lace used to trim Diana's dress was antique handmade Carrickmacross lace.

The train was so long the Emanuel's hadn't thought in practice how they would fit it, Princess Diana and her father all into the glass carriage and unfortunately her dress was badly wrinkled when she arrived at the cathedral. Here you can see how wrinkled the front of her dress was:

Sadly not everyone thought this dress was amazing one bridal guide commented "Too much dress, Not enough Princess"
I also remember my father commenting that it was such a waste of fabric that it was sickening how long her train was. There weren't many replica's made of her dress but in my opinion that's fine because it's unique and not many people could make it look as wonderful as Princess Diana did.
